MediaCityUK Phase 2 has officially begun construction with the first of many proposed new buildings beginning to take place opposite the small supermarket Booths, on the site of the former car park.
MediaCityUK initially proposed it’s second phase back in 2016 after Phase 1 completed in 2010 and saw a surge of business and students flocking to the area. The site now houses some of the biggest businesses in the UK, such as BBC, ITV, Kellogg’s, and the University of Salford. As it stands currently, the site has erected temporary buildings and features on the sites that will later be developed on, such as the Booths car park, the Greenhouse, and The Pitch at Media City.
As seen in the CGI renditions of the future phase, these features will be dismantled and replaced with other multi-level buildings that will house business offices, residential apartments and more car parking spaces for the ever-growing city. In the images taken this morning, you will be able to see the construction taking place on the former site of the Booths car park, with the bored piling foundations beginning to take place. This construction site has developed at a rapid pace, with the car park only beginning to be removed around two weeks ago. In this short amount of time, workers have been on-site every day and transformed the car park into the site you see today, with half of the piling foundation already implemented ready for the steel frame erection.
The development of the surrounding area is already beginning to change the atmosphere of MediaCityUK and evolve from a business and office city, to a spectacular hybrid of residential living, working, restaurant eating and play. In a short time, MediaCityUK will house even more residents in X1 Michigan Towers, with Broadway Place taking shape over the trees behind it and The Residence at Anchorage completing in Autumn next year on the waterfront of the Erie Basin. The amenities of MediaCityUK are also growing exponentially with Quayside MediaCityUK (formerly the Lowry Outlet Mall) expanding and undergoing refurbishment in the latest plans for the area.
With MediaCityUK and Peel L&P Buildings becoming the first in the UK to achieve net-zero carbon status and demonstrating net zero carbon status based on their operational carbon emissions, their action taken to reduce those emissions and their renewable energy use, the future development of the city will follow these guidelines and set a precedent of the future of Salford Quays and the surrounding neighbourhoods. Salford Quays has evolved further into a sought-after location for the locals and external visitors, leading average PPCM for rental properties in the area to reach new heights, and buyer interest at capacity, generating the development of more schemes in the area. We cannot wait for the further expansion of the area and all of the fantastic opportunities that will come with it.
